Got to love NYC

One of the highlights of our Avon Walk was this guy!! We came across a "bike polo" game on the Lower East Side, where many of the players were dressed like this in various forms of dress and undress! We actually stopped walking and stood mesmerized for about 30 mins before we remembered that we still had 10 more miles to walk! Quite the pitstop!

26 miles!!!!!!!!

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

This past weekend my friend Peggy and I completed a 39 mile walk, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in New York City. Before we started at 5am Saturday morning I said to Peggy "how many miles is it from here" !!!! I actually meant how far from her apartment did we have to walk to the start line, but we got a lot of laughs from that statement over the weekend as we slogged, trudged, limped and laughed over the finish line Sunday afternoon. We completed 26.2 miles Saturday and 13.1 miles Sunday. We actually ended with no blisters but REALLY sore legs, feet and lower backs (strange that one!). The route took us all over Manhattan, Harlem and Brooklyn. We walked over the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge and the Tribeca Bridge (I know, didn't even know about that one). We met mothers, sisters, friends, co-workers and even a few men who were all walking for one cause, to help find a cure to end breast cancer. We laughed along the way so much and shared a few tears too. Today is the "next day" and I can hardly walk, i'm in agony but it was worth every minute to have raised $1800 and shared in this experience with so many inspirational women who struggle every day to raise kids and families while fighting cancer.
